Council Highlights: November 10, 2025

Northwestern Polytechnic Meeting — Council directed Administration to request a meeting with Council and Northwest Polytechnic (NWP) to discuss the Fairview Campus closure and to research relevant information in advance of the meeting. 

County of Grande Prairie 75th Anniversary Advisory Committee — Council appointed Councillor Beaupre to the County of Grande Prairie’s 75th Anniversary Advisory Committee. 

Funding Request Approved for Hythe Athletic Association — Council approved the $135,795 operating assistance funding request from the Hythe Athletic Association, to be included in the 2026 interim budget, and will re-evaluate the Association’s financial position before operating funding is confirmed for 2027. The Association provided an annual update to Council, showcasing the work of volunteers and the programming, fundraising, and facility upgrades that took place in 2025.  

Funding Requests — Council referred the following funding requests to the 2026 interim budget: 

  • $26,000 operating assistance funding request from the Hythe and District Recreational Society. Council will re-evaluate the Association’s financial position prior to confirming 2027 operating funding. The Society provided their annual update to Council highlighting operations in 2024-2025. 

  • $101,156 operating funding request from the Bezanson Agricultural Society. Council requested that the Society report back to Council in the fourth quarter of 2026 before operating funding is confirmed for 2027. The Society provided an annual update to Council on the Bezanson Community Event Centre’s 2025 operating costs and facility usage . 

  • $101,531 operating assistance funding request from the La Glace & District Agricultural Society. Council requested that the Society report back to Council in the fourth quarter of 2026 before operating funding is confirmed for 2027. The Society provided an annual update to Council regarding2024-2025 operations of the Tamarack Valley Recreation Centre, the Igloo (old arena), and the curling arena. 

Tamarack Valley Recreation Centre Capital Grant Request Deferred to Interim Budget — Council deferred the $2.6 million 2026 Capital Grant request from the La Glace and District Agricultural Society for Phase 4 of the Tamarack Valley Recreation Centre to the 2026 interim budget. Council appointed Councillor Marty Tissington to the La Glace Regional Recreation Centre Building Committee, replacing Deputy Reeve Chrenek's appointment. Council directed Administration to bring back a history of funding for the La Glace and District Agricultural Society Recreation Centre to the December 1, 2025, Committee of the Whole Meeting. 

Local Assessment Review Board Chair Appointed — Council appointed Jenna Hildebrand as the Chair of the Local (Joint) Assessment Review Board (LARB) for a three-year term expiring October 2028. Bylaw #3220 – Joint Assessment Review Boards establishes the Joint Assessment Review Boards for the County of Grande Prairie, Town of Wembley, Town of Sexsmith, and Town of Beaverlodge. 

Electoral Boundary Commission Letter of Concern — Council directed Administration to send a letter of concern, including documentation, regarding the electoral boundaries within the province of Alberta to the Electoral Boundary Commission, with copies to the Northern Alberta Elected Leaders (NAEL), Members of the Legislative Assembly, and the Premier . 
 
2025 Family and Community Support Services Association of Alberta Delegates Appointed — Council appointed Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) Board members Brian Peterson  and Karen Rosvold as voting delegates for the 2025 FCSS Association of Alberta Annual General Meeting on November 27, 2025.  

Rural Municipalities of Alberta 2026 Resolutions — Council received an information report from Administration on the resolutions being brought forward for voting by the Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) Board at the RMA Fall convention in November 2025. 

Sponsorship Requests — Council awarded $1,000 in sponsorship to the Peace Regional Beef Promotional Society for the Peace Country Beef Congress event in January 2026. Council took no action on a sponsorship request from the Grande Prairie Regional Tourism Association for the 2025 Northern Alberta Tourism Summit.  

The next Regular Council Meeting will take place on November 24, 2025. The next Committee of the Whole Meeting will take place on December 1, 2025.
