County Crews Addressing Pooling Water from Spring Melt

County crews are currently working to address issues with pooling water and localized flooding caused by warmer temperatures and spring runoff throughout the County.

Work includes steaming culverts and clearing storm drains. Once completed, an area can take up to 24 hours to drain without additional precipitation.

“Crews are proactively addressing areas with known pooling or flooding; however, when water is actively affecting homes, buildings, property, or infrastructure, crews will address those areas first,” says Transportation and Utilities General Manager Ryan Konowalyk. “We encourage residents to contact us directly at 780-532-7393 to report any areas needing attention.”

Areas of concern will be addressed as efficiently as possible, unless a higher-priority flooding issue occurs. Residents are encouraged to report any areas requiring immediate attention, such as washed out or frozen culverts and flooding or significant road damage impacting travel or posing a significant risk to safety or property.

Residents are reminded that flooding or drainage issues on privately owned properties and roads are the responsibility of the owner. The County is also not responsible for maintenance of numbered provincial highways including Highway 2, Highway 40, Highway 43, or Highway 672. To report issues with a provincial highway, contact the Regional Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors office at 780-624-6280 or Ledcor at 1-866-453-3267.

The County thanks residents and drivers for their caution and patience as crews work to address trouble spots.
