County of Grande Prairie Offers New Business Incentives Program to Attract and Grow Businesses

The County of Grande Prairie has launched a new Business Incentives Program offering tax savings to companies that build or expand in the County.

“We want to grow our local economy and create good jobs,” says Reeve Bob Marshall. “This new program will provide meaningful support to businesses by lowering their costs and showing them that the County is a great place to invest.”

The program was created through a new Business Incentives Bylaw, and gives two types of support:

1.  Sector-Based Tax Exemption (2.5 per cent credit equivalent)

Businesses participating in Alberta government tax incentive programs, such as those for petrochemicals, agri-processing, or carbon capture, can qualify for property tax reductions on non-residential and machinery and equipment assets.

The reduction is based on a 2.5 per cent credit on capital expenses and is awarded as a declining exemption, covering up to 80 per cent of property taxes per year, for up to 10 years.

2.  Infrastructure Incentive (25 per cent rebate)

The Infrastructure Incentive offers a property tax exemption spread over five years, covering up to 25 per cent of required County infrastructure upgrades, such as road access, for projects over $5 million that do not qualify for sector-based incentives.

“The Business Incentives Program opens up a new way of working with investors,” said Jordan Tidey, the County’s Director of Economic Development. “It sets us apart, helping to attract projects that will bring jobs and long-term value to our region.”

To qualify, businesses must align their practices with the program’s guidelines, including ensuring appropriate permits are in place and complying with municipal taxes and applicable bylaws.

This new program follows the County’s plan to boost investment and supports the goals in the County’s Industrial Investment Attraction Strategy.
