Veterans Memorial Garden and Interpretive Centre Funding Awarded — Council approved the $5,000 funding request from the Canadian Motorcycle Tourism Association (CMTA) for the Veterans Memorial Garden and Interpretive Centre. CMTA runs the Veterans Memorial Gardens & Interpretive Centre in the City of Grande Prairie. The project started in 2017, as a place to teach the community about the military history in northwest Alberta. Since 2019, the County has awarded $20,600 in grants to the initiative. 

Event Funding Approved — Council approved $1,500 in sponsorship funding to the Wapiti Off-Road Association for the Numb Bum 24 event being held on March 8-9, 2025, on Clairmont Lake. 

Letter of Congratulations — Council directed Administration to send a letter of congratulations to the Grande Prairie Regional Agricultural and Exhibition Society for winning an Alberta Agricultural Societies Innovation Award.   

Resource Companies Policy Updated — Council approved minor amendments to Policy N17 – Approaches Constructed by Resource Companies as presented.  

Application to Subdivide Land Approved — Council approved the application with conditions to subdivide 0.9 hectares from one lot of land within Sandy Lane Estates, located approximately one kilometre south of the City of Grande Prairie, one kilometre east of Highway 40 and on the south boundary of Highway 668, directly across from the Highway 40 Industrial Park.       

Range Road 74 Municipal Reserve — Council approved the sale and consolidation of two surplus municipal reserve parcels, Lot 2 and Lot 3, on Range Road 74, to resolve issues from the 2023 grading project. The sale will follow all required processes, with proceeds allocated back to the Municipal Reserve fund.  

Public Hearings — Council held the following public hearings: 

  • Council gave final reading to Bylaw #2680-25-006 to redesignate 11.52 hectares of land, located approximately 3.5 miles north of the Town of Wembley and adjacent to Township Road 720A and Range Road 84, from the Agricultural (AG) District to the Country Residential (CR-5) District. 
  • Council gave final reading to Bylaw #2680-25-008 to redesignate 4.05 hectares of land, located approximately 3.5 miles north of the Hamlet of Teepee Creek at the intersection of Highway 733 and Township Road 744, from the Agricultural (AG) District to the Country Residential (CR-5) District.  

Staff Introductions — Council welcomed Northwestern Polytechnic student Quinn Powell who is completing a two-month practicum with the County’s Corporate Services and Strategy team.  

The next Regular Council Meeting will take place on February 24, 2025. The next Committee of the Whole Meeting will take place on March 3, 2025
