Grande Prairie–Greenview Corridor Leads Alberta in Housing Growth Outside Major Metro Areas

The Grande Prairie–Greenview Corridor is leading Alberta in housing growth outside of the Edmonton and Calgary metropolitan areas, reflecting strong investor confidence and sustained regional demand.

When combined, the region recorded 579 housing starts in 2025, representing over 60 per cent increase from 2024 This marks the highest housing growth rate and largest net increase in starts among all non-metro regions in the province.

We are proud of the growth and investor confidence we are seeing not only in our County but across the region,” said Reeve Amanda McDonald, County of Grande Prairie. “The Grande Prairie–Greenview Corridor continues to prove it is a place full of opportunity where people come to build a strong career, earn a great wage, and enjoy a high quality of life. For many, what starts as a five-year plan becomes a place to put down roots for a lifetime.

This level of residential development reflects sustained demand across both urban and rural communities, supported by coordinated planning, infrastructure investment, and a growing workforce.

“What we are seeing across the Grande Prairie–Greenview Corridor is clear proof that northwestern Alberta continues to lead as an economic powerhouse for the province,” said Grande Prairie Mayor Jackie Clayton. “Beyond strong industry, this region offers exceptional value, a high quality of life, and real opportunity. Building a career here is an investment in your future and in a community where success and livability go hand in hand.”

As a regional partnership, Invest NW supports collaboration between municipal partners to strengthen investment readiness and promote long-term economic sustainability across the corridor.

“The powerful momentum that is driving growth across the Grande Prairie–Greenview Corridor is a testament to the strength of northwestern Alberta as a whole,” said Reeve Ryan Ratzlaff, MD of Greenview. “Our region’s position at the forefront of provincial housing growth reflects more than strong numbers; it reflects the trust that families and businesses place in this region as a place to build a better future. Here, opportunity isn’t just a promise; it’s something people experience every day through stable employment, supportive communities, and an exceptional quality of life. It’s why more individuals and families are choosing to build their future here and why Greenview remains committed to supporting growth that strengthens our entire region.”

With continued residential activity and supporting infrastructure investment, the Grande Prairie–Greenview region remains well positioned to support population growth while maintaining the quality of life and economic opportunities that define northwestern Alberta. Early indicators heading into 2026 show this momentum continuing, with several new residential, commercial, and industrial projects already announced or advancing through planning stages, representing more than $14 billion in planned investment across the Grande Prairie – Greenview Corridor.
