Alberta Transportation Update on Provincial Projects — The Committee received an update from Derek Young, Regional Director of Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors (TEC) on provincial transportation infrastructure projects and initiatives within the County of Grande Prairie. Learn more at www.majorprojects.alberta.ca. Notable projects include:
- Highway 40X, including land acquisition
- Highway 43/670/733 Intersection Improvement at Bezanson
- Highway 40 Twinning including:
- The Vehicle Inspection Station (VIS)
- Highway 666 Access to Highway 40 Southbound
- Advance Warning Signs on each side of the Wapiti River Valley
- Highway 2 and Webster Road Intersection Improvement
- Highway 2 and Township Road 732 Intersection Improvement (merge lanes)
- Highway 43 Beaverlodge Bypass
- Highway 43 and Highway 724 Intersection, specifically the southbound to eastbound movement
- Highway 43 near Wembley, advance signage for the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum
- Highway 43 west of the City of Grande Prairie limits
- Highway 59 CN Rail crossing at Range Road 61
- Highway 59 bridge file replacement
- Highway 672 speed reduction from Range Road 63 to Highway 2
- General provincial highway maintenance.
Waste Collection Report — The Committee received a report from Administration highlighting the County’s curbside waste collection program within the County’s hamlets and subdivisions.
Minimum Tax on Grazing Leases Update — The Committee directed Administration to bring back information regarding minimum tax levies on grazing leases, as it applies to multiple parcels of land to a future Council meeting in order to hear from scheduled delegations on the topic.
Proposed Cemetery Bylaw Input — The Committee directed Administration to incorporate the feedback provided by local cemetery volunteer groups to support scenario one, a three-tiered fee structure to be incorporated into the County’s Schedule of Fees, Rates and Charges Bylaw effective January 1, 2026. The Committee directed Administration to incorporate the feedback and action items into the proposed Cemetery Bylaw and following a legal review, bring a draft bylaw to a future Council meeting.
The next Regular Council Meeting will take place on June 23, 2025. The next Budget Council meeting will take place on July 17. The next Committee of the Whole Meeting will take place on July 18, 2025.
