County of Grande Prairie Strategic Plan 2026-2030 — Council approved the 2026-2030 County of Grande Prairie Strategic Plan as presented. The Plan establishes strategic priorities to guide decision‑making, investments, and actions for the term of Council. Read the full media release

Agriculture Vegetation and Weed Management Changes — To improve the efficiency of weed management and spraying across the County, Council approved a business case to fund additional equipment, technology and one seasonal employee. The funding will be included in the 2026 Final Budget with $89,891.91 in funding for 2026, $51,931.97 in 2027, and $52,742.88 in 2028.

Ice Plant Control System Replacement — Council directed Administration to enter into an agreement with Midpoint Mechanical and TSE Technologies to replace the J.D.A. Sportsplex Ice Plant Operator Interface Software and Controls for a total contract value of $21,860, excluding GST.

Highway 40 Pedestrian Bridge Memorandum of Agreement — Council directed Administration to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement with Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors for the operation and maintenance of the underslung pedestrian bridge across the Wapiti River on Highway 40.

Aquatera Dividend Declaration to Shareholders — Council directed Administration as shareholders of Aquatera Utilities Inc., to consent to the Board of the Corporation’s declared dividends, according to the corporation classes, payable to shareholders by March 31, 2026. Additionally, Council directed Administration to bring back the Aquatera Policy to a future Committee of the Whole meeting.

Landfill and Transfer Stations — Council directed Administration to bring back information on the studies needed to outline the waste footprints of the County’s inactive landfill and transfer station sites. 

Water and Wastewater Committee — Council appointed Councillor Brian Grant to the Water and Wastewater Committee for the period of March 23, 2026, to the 2026 Organizational meeting.

Weed and Pest Appeal Committee — Council appointed Clint Slette to the Weed and Pest Appeal Committee until the end of October 2029, coinciding with Council’s term of office. 

Council and Board Member Honoraria & Expense Reimbursement Policy Updated — Council approved Policy F10 — Council and Board Member Honoraria & Expense Reimbursement as presented.

Chief Administrative Officer Bylaw — Council gave third and final reading to Bylaw #3271 – Chief Administrative Officer Bylaw.

Letter of Support — Council will provide a letter of support to the Municipal District of Greenview for their Designated Industrial Zone application for the Greenview Industrial Gateway.  

Public Hearings:

  • Council gave third and final reading to Bylaw #2680-26-010 to redesignate 3.29 acres of land located approximately five miles south of the Town of Wembley from the Intensive Recreation (IR) District to the Country Residential (CR-5) District.
  • Council gave third and final reading to Bylaw #3277 – Whispering Ridge Area Structure Plan Amendment Bylaw.
  • Council gave third and final reading to Bylaw #2680-26-011 to redesignate land located within the Hamlet of Clairmont, adjacent to the City of Grande Prairie and east of Range Road 62 for a total of 100 lots:
    •  13.22 acres from the Agricultural (AG) District to the Rural Residential (RR-2) District.
    • 9.71 acres from the Agricultural (AG) District to the Medium Density Residential (MDR) District.
  • Council gave third and final reading to Bylaw #2680-26-012 to redesignate 38.93 acres of land located east of Range Road 64, south of Township Road 724, and west of the Hamlet of Clairmont from the Agricultural (AG) District to the Country Residential (CR-5) District.
  • Council gave third and final reading to Bylaw #2680-26-013 to redesignate 20 acres of land located east of Range Road 91, north of Township Road 720, six miles west of the Town of Beaverlodge from the Agricultural (AG) District to the Country Residential (CR-2) District.
  • Council gave third and final reading to Bylaw #2680-26-014 to redesignate 29.99 acres of land located 12.68 km east of Range Road 105 and north of Township Road 704, southwest of the Town of Beaverlodge from the Agricultural (AG) District to the Country Residential (CR-5) District.

Sponsorship Requests Council approved a $500 sponsorship request from the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories in support of the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s event. 

The next Regular Council Meeting will take place on April 13, 2026. The next Committee of the Whole Meeting will take place on March 26, 2026.
