Recycling Changes are Coming to the County 

Starting October 1, 2026, all Albertans will be able to recycle more materials than ever before through Alberta’s enhanced recycling system. The list of materials accepted for recycling is expanding province-wide and now includes foam food packaging, pet food bags, laundry detergent containers, aerosol containers, personal hygiene packaging, and more.  

Alberta’s enhanced recycling system is managed by Circular Materials, a national not-for-profit organization that oversees and facilitates recycling systems for producers and residents. Under Alberta's Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program, recycling fees are collected at the time of purchase and fund recycling services at no cost to residents or municipalities. 

The County of Grande Prairie’s recycling program has been managed by Circular Materials since 2025. For a detailed list of materials, visit www.circularmaterials.ca/resident-communities/grande-prairie-no-1. 

Curbside Recycling Collection 

County residents in the hamlets and subdivisions of Clairmont, Carriage Lane, Taylor Estates, Wedgewood, Westlake, Whispering Ridge, and Maple Ridge can place all accepted recycling in a clear blue bag for curbside recycling collection on their respective pickup days, with no need to sort materials into separate bags.  

Hythe will also receive curbside recycling collection beginning in October. Additional information about the new recycling service will be sent to Hythe residents closer to launch. 

Please remember, bags must be placed at least one metre away from garbage bins and all garbage and recycling should be curbside by 7 a.m. on pickup day.

County Recycling Facilities 

Recycling facilities are available to all County residents in several locations, including the Clairmont Centre for Recycling and Waste Management, County Transfer Stations, and recycling depots. 

As part of these changes on October 1, 2026, three recycling depots will be relocated to transfer stations. These include:  

• Hythe Recycling Depot (98th street, behind the curling rink) will be relocated to the Demmitt Transfer Station, 742083 Range Road 131
• Elmworth Recycling Depot (113036 Highway 722, at the school) will be relocated to the Elmworth Transfer Station, 702068 Range Road 115
• Teepee Creek Recycling Depot (9912 100 Avenue, near the fire hall) will be relocated to the Teepee Creek Transfer Station, 745052 Highway 733 

With the October 1, 2026, recycling changes, residents will be able to place all recyclable materials into recycling bins without sorting them.
