Resident Satisfaction Remains Very Strong for County of Grande Prairie

Resident Satisfaction Remains Very Strong for County of Grande Prairie

County of Grande Prairie residents continue to report high quality of life, strong feelings of safety, and a deep sense of community pride and connection, according to the County’s latest Citizen Satisfaction Survey. The online survey, conducted in late 2025, was presented to Council at today’s Committee of the Whole meeting.

“The survey results confirm that satisfaction with the County’s performance, programs and services remains high,” says Reeve Amanda McDonald. “This feedback will help guide our decisions and strategic planning and reinforces that residents continue to feel confident in their local government and positive about living in the County.”

Highlights from the survey report include:

  • Quality of Life: Overall, this area remains remarkably high in the County with 95% of residents believing their quality of life is good. A high percentage (88%) expressed pride in being a resident of the County.

  • Safety: An increasing number of residents (92% versus 89% in 2023) agree that the County is a safe region.

  • Satisfaction with Programs and Services: General satisfaction with the overall level and quality of County of Grande Prairie services and programs remains notably high (77%) especially when compared with the Alberta benchmark (44% in January 2025). Individual programs and services showing the highest levels of satisfaction among those who provided an opinion include the Fire Department (94% versus 92% in 2023), campgrounds (93% versus 88% in 2023), and waste management (91% versus 88% in 2023). Notably, three quarters of respondents (75%) say they are satisfied with vegetation management, a significant increase over 2023 feedback (69%).

  • Important Programs and Services: The Fire Department (99%), paved road upkeep and conditions (97%), and waste management – landfill (96%) are the programs and services most important to County residents.

  • Top of Mind Issues: Taxes, budget control, and road conditions are the top three issues on residents’ minds.

  • Value for Taxes: The number of residents (28%) who indicate they are receiving good value for the municipal portion of their property tax bill has realigned with 2021 results after a slight increase in 2023 (36%). More residents feel they receive good rather than poor value for their taxes, with most residents expressing neutrality. Key reasons behind the perception of good value in 2025 include well-maintained and cleaned roads, as well as more reasonable taxes than other municipalities.

  • Awareness of Wildfire Efforts: County of Grande Prairie residents have a high satisfaction with the County’s performance in responding to wildfires (70%) and report overall high awareness of the following programs: the County’s FireSmart™ program (74%) and Wildfire Mitigation Strategy (73%), and the Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership (73%). Residents are most aware of the provision of fire safety tips and checklists for homeowners (85%).

  • Areas of Success: Residents feel the County is maintaining its effectiveness in actioning strategic priorities when compared with 2023 results: 72% of residents noted the County’s success in providing effective transportation networks such as roadways; 60% say the County has been successful at encouraging economic development; and 52% believe the County is managing land effectively.

  • County Operations: Overall satisfaction with County performance, for both Council and administration, has increased slightly (72%) compared with 2023 feedback (69%).
