County Launches New Grant Program to Support Local Business Growth Through Technology InfrastructureCouncil approved the new business incentives program to support small- and medium-sized County businesses by helping them upgrade infrastructure-related technology to drive growth and innovation. Council Funds Grade Three Reading Academy – Council approved the $15,000 funding request from the Grade Three Reading Academy Society for a three-year term (2025 – 2027) for the Reading University program. Grade Three Reading University is a summer literacy program that helps grade three students achieve grade-level reading and comprehension before entering grade four. 

Request to Release Capital Funding Approved – Council approved the release of the remaining $26,750, 2024 Capital Grant approved funding for the North Kleskun Community Society (formally known as the Emmaus Church and Cemetery Society) for septic system improvements. 

Early Equipment Replacement Request Approved – Council approved $27,000 to be allocated for the early replacement of a County trailer.  

2026 Equipment Replacement List – Council approved the 2026 Equipment Replacement list, which includes the purchasing and disposal of various pieces of equipment including trucks, graders, and mowers as presented. 

Transportation and Utilities Building Air Conditioning Replacement – Council directed Administration to allocated $29,379, including GST to fund the replacement of the air conditioning compressor in the Transportation and Utilities building. 

County Road Surfacing Policy Updated – Council directed Administration to remove  eight subdivisions from Policy N47 – County Road Surfacing and proceed with a consistent local improvement criterion for all rural residential subdivisions wanting to upgrade from an existing gravel surface to a paved surface. 

County Hamlet Signage Update – Council directed Administration that no additional foamcore monument signs (FCMS) be installed, and the two hamlets with both FCMS and Other County Branded Signs (OCBS) have the OCBS removed, and hamlets without signage have a standard OCBS installed. 

Road Closure of a Portion of Government Road Allowance – Council gave third and final reading to the proposed Bylaw #3258 - Road Closure of Portion of Government Road Allowance located approximately adjacent to the Wapiti River bridge next to Highway 40 south.  

Financial Reserves Policy Updated – Council approved the updated Policy C27 – Financial Reserves and Levies as presented. 

Committee Review and Update – Council appointed the Reeve and Deputy Reeve as the point of contact for the Maskwa Medical Centre, Maskwa Medical Centre Building Committee and the Mountview Health Complex Committee and that Council continue to participate on the Hythe & District Pioneer Homes Committee. 

Development Permit Application Approved – Council approved the development permit from R360 Environmental Solutions Canada to expand its existing office located approximately six miles southwest of the Hamlet of La Glace south of Highway 672 and East of Range Road 85. 

Public Hearings: 

  • Council gave third and final reading to Bylaw #2680-25-033 to redesignate 26.53 acres located approximately 2.51 miles northeast of the Hamlet of Clairmont, adjacent to Range Road 51 to the east and south of Township Road 730 from the Agricultural (AG) District to the Country Residential (CR-5) District. 

  • Council gave third and final reading to Bylaw #2680-25-032 to redesignate the following areas to accommodate the future subdividing of land located along Township Road 704A, three miles south of the City of Grande Prairie in the Dunes subdivision: 

  • 0.175 hectares of land within Pt. NW-25-70-6-W6, Plan 8721777; ; Lot 6 from the Rural Estate (RE) District to the Country Residential (CR-1) District.  

  • 0.580 hectares of land within Pt. NW-25-70-6-W6, Plan 8721777; ; Lot 6 from the Country Residential (CR-1) District to the Rural Estate (RE) District. 

  • 0.096 hectares of land within Pt. NW-25-70-6-W6, Plan 9724064; ; Lot 6B from the Country Residential (CR-1) District to the Rural Estate (RE) District. 

 
Sponsorship Request Council approved up to $5000 sponsorship  for the Venture A.I. 2025 Symposium being held at Northwestern Polytechnic on October 20, 2025. 

The next Regular Council Meeting will take place on October 6, 2025. The next Committee of the Whole Meeting will take place on December 1, 2025. The next Organizational Meeting will take place on October 27.
