Update #1: Evacuation alert issued for County residents affected by Kiskatinaw River Wildfire

Friday, June 27, 2025, 4:45 p.m. – The County of Grande Prairie has issued an Evacuation Alert for everyone located north of Township Road 714 to Township Road 734, east of the British Columbia/Alberta border to Range Road 131 due to wildfire. This evacuation alert is based on recommendations from BC Wildfire, the primary agency in command of working to contain the Kiskatinaw River Wildfire.

Residents must prepare themselves and their livestock for a possible evacuation. If a mandatory evacuation order is issued, residents will have 30 minutes to evacuate.

Residents should fuel vehicles and gather pets, important documents, medications, medical devices, and enough food and water to be away from your home for at least 7 days.

Alberta Wildfire reports that the wildfire is estimated at 26,315 hectares and is located near the Alberta–British Columbia border.

Over the past two weeks, significant progress has been made on containment lines. However, pockets of unburned trees remain within the perimeter, and these areas could support increased fire activity as temperatures rise and wind speed increase. While perimeter growth is not anticipated, there is potential for spot fires under these conditions. To prepare, Alberta Wildfire has additional heavy equipment on standby to respond quickly if this occurs. Crews are focusing efforts in priority areas to reinforce containment ahead of the weekend.

Alberta Wildfire is supporting BC Wildfire efforts as needed. The incident management team is also working closely with the County of Grande Prairie and the Peace River Regional District to ensure a coordinated regional response.

County residents in the area who are registered with the County’s Livestock Emergency Response Plan (LERP) are being contacted by the County Agriculture department and are advised to stay tuned to ongoing updates. Residents in the area who have not registered their livestock with LERP should call 780-532-9727.
