Update #10: Residents in path of wildfire near Kelly Lake remain on evacuation alert
Wednesday, May 4, 2025, 8:30 p.m. – The Evacuation Alert is still in effect for everyone north of Township Road 710 to Township Road 740, east of the British Columbia/Alberta border to Range Road 130. No evacuation is required at this time. If an evacuation order is issued, residents will have 30 minutes to evacuate.
The BC Wildfire Service reports that the Kiskatinaw River wildfire is expected to grow significantly over the next few days due to extreme wildfire behaviour from high winds and temperatures. Numerous resources are being used including firefighters, helicopters, heavy equipment, and structural protection.
County Regional Fire Service has put additional structural protection in place in the expanded evacuation alert area. The County has a helicopter staged onsite, increased staffing at all stations, and is supporting the BC Wildfire Service and Alberta Wildfire as the lead agencies responding to the wildfire.
County residents who have not registered their livestock with the County’s Livestock Emergency Response Plan (LERP) should call 780-532-9727.
The County of Grande Prairie has extended the State of Local Emergency.
Stay clear of the area and allow crews to conduct their work. A staffed checkpoint is in place with barricades at the border and RCMP are patrolling the evacuation area.
