Update #2: Ongoing monitoring of wildfire near Kelly Lake, British Columbia

Thursday, May 29, 2025, 3:15 p.m. – The County of Grande Prairie and Alberta Wildfire are closely monitoring wildfire G70422 located near Kelly Lake, British Columbia (BC), about 15 kilometers west of the Alberta border. If conditions do not improve, an evacuation alert may be required for County residents located close to the BC/Alberta border.

While the fire remains within BC, the County Regional Fire Service has two structure protection teams on standby, ready to install sprinklers on homes in the area, if necessary. On the other side of the border, BC Wildfire Service is actively responding with firefighters, helicopters, air tankers, and heavy equipment. Information on BC wildfires can be found at BC Wildfire.

County residents in the area who are registered with the County’s Livestock Emergency Response Plan (LERP) are being contacted by the County Agriculture department. Residents in the area who have not registered their livestock with LERP should call 780-532-9727.
