Update #33: Reduced Fire Activity Supports Continued Progress

Update #33: Reduced Fire Activity Supports Continued Progress

Monday, June 16, 2025, 1:40 p.m. –  Cooler weather and reduced fire activity have supported continued progress on the Kiskatinaw River Wildfire. However, the wildfire remains out of control and continues to pose a potential risk to nearby areas.

An evacuation alert remains in place for everyone north of Township Road 710 to 740, east of the British Columbia/Alberta border to Range Road 132.

A fire ban remains in effect for the entire County of Grande Prairie. Residents are urged to adhere to the fire ban which was issued due to dry conditions and recent wildfire activity in the region.

Weather and Fire Behaviour

Another weather system is expected to pass through the Dawson Creek area this afternoon, bringing scattered showers and a 20–40% chance of lightning. Winds will remain light in the morning and increase as the system moves through. Smoke may remain visible in the area. Please call 911 if you see any open flame.

Operations Update

Crews continue wildfire suppression efforts, supported by reduced fire activity. Infrared scanning is being used to detect remaining hotspots on the western edge of the fire. Fire guard construction is progressing north of Highway 52 toward the Alberta border, and crews are also creating a temporary control line by spraying water along the ground to help slow or stop the spread of fire between Highway 52 and the 4000 Road. Heavy equipment remains active along the southern and western edges of the fire. As conditions improve, structure protection equipment is demobilizing from the Kelly Lake and One Island Lake areas.
