Update #5: No significant overnight growth of wildfire southwest of Kelly Lake; Evacuation Alert remains in effect
Friday, May 30, 2025, 10:00 a.m. – There was no significant overnight growth of the out-of-control wildfire burning approximately 7.5 kilometres from the BC/Alberta border. The Evacuation Alert will remain in place.
The estimated 4,590-hectare Kiskatinaw River wildfire (G70422) remains within BC and is located southwest of Kelly Lake, BC.
The Evacuation Alert remains in effect for County residents located north of Township Road 720 to Township Road 732, east of the British Columbia (BC)/Alberta border to Range Road 130. No evacuation is required at this time. If an Evacuation Order is issued, residents will have 30 minutes to evacuate.
The BC Wildfire Service continues to respond with firefighters, helicopters, air tankers, and heavy equipment.
The County Regional Fire Service continues to monitor fire behaviour and provided sprinkler protection to six homes last night. The County has a helicopter on standby, increased staffing at all stations, and is supporting the BC Wildfire Service and Alberta Wildfire as the lead agencies responding to the wildfire.
How to prepare for an evacuation:

Fuel vehicles and gather pets, important documents, medications, medical devices, and enough food and water to be away from home for at least 7 days.

County residents from the evacuation alert area who are registered with the County’s Livestock Emergency Response Plan (LERP) have been contacted by the County Agriculture department. Residents from the evacuation alert area who have not registered their livestock with LERP should call 780-532-9727.
