Alberta Wildfire and the County of Grande Prairie continue to monitor the Kiskatinaw River wildfire (G70422), burning southwest of Kelly Lake in British Columbia (BC). The fire is about 7 km from the Alberta border and is estimated at 4,554 hectares. Although the wildfire remains within BC, proactive planning continues in the event it crosses into Alberta. BC Wildfire Service is actively responding with crews, helicopters, air tankers, and heavy equipment.

Wildfire evacuation alert remains in effect

The wildfire evacuation alert issued by the County of Grande Prairie remains in place for residents located north of Township Road 720 to Township Road 732, east of the BC/Alberta border to Range Road 130. No evacuation is required at this time. If an evacuation order is issued, residents will have 30 minutes to evacuate.

Structural protection remains in place

The County Regional Fire Service continues to monitor fire behaviour and structural protection remains in place. The County has a helicopter on standby and is supporting the BC Wildfire Service and Alberta Wildfire as the lead agencies responding to the wildfire.

Where to find updates

The next update will be provided on Sunday, June 1, unless conditions change and there is a need for an earlier update.
