Rural Renewal Stream

Employers who wish to participate in the Rural Renewal Stream must independently recruit and hire qualified candidates. The County of Grande Prairie does not recruit, screen, match or place workers with employers. The County's role is limited to reviewing employer applications, validating eligible employment opportunities and issuing community endorsements under the program.

Employers must be incorporated, or registered by or under, an act of the legislature of a province, territory, or the Parliament of Canada and operate within the municipal boundaries of the County.

• Operating within the municipality for a minimum of one year - with the appropriate development permits, OH&S programs, and WCB clearance.

Workplace offers or contracts must be signed by the employee and employer, and must provide:

• continuous, paid work within the County
• full-time work, defined as a minimum of 30 hours per week, employment for 12 months or more, and wages and benefits that meet or exceed the lowest starting wage for your occupation across all industries in Alberta. https://alis.alberta.ca/

Job Opportunities must be available to Canadians first, at the same pay and working conditions. Under the AAIP, there are some ineligible occupations. 

Employers must meet all eligibility criteria under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program's Rural Renewal Stream prior to issuing an offer of employment. Please review the available information carefully.

A Labour Market Impact Assessment is not required, but demonstrated efforts to recruit locally, provincially, and nationally are required for the application.

Employers are required to demonstrate knowledge of the responsibilities of welcoming newcomers and providing a warm and welcoming environment. A business looking to participate in the program must demonstrate that they have knowledge of the employer's responsibilities with respect to federal and provincial immigration laws and regulations.

Following a program review, the Rural Renewal Stream Committee is accepting employer applications for positions within the following priority sectors:

• Agriculture
• Chemical Manufacturing
• Forestry
• Health Care
• Renewable Energy
• Logistics
• Educational Services

Employers must demonstrate that the position fills a workforce need within their organization and aligns with one of the priority sectors listed above.

Applications will be reviewed by the Rural Renewal Stream Committee based on labour market demand, the availability of local workers, occupation requirements and alignment with regional workforce priorities.

Occupation Requirements

Due to the limited number of endorsement letters available through the Rural Renewal Stream, priority will be given to occupations that align with the Work NW Alberta sector profiles and fall within National Occupation Classification (NOC) TEER categories 0 to 3.

NOC TEER 0 – Management Occupations
Senior leadership, executive and management positions.

NOC TEER 1 – University Education
Occupations that typically require a university degree, such as accountants, engineers, financial analysts and human resources professionals.

NOC TEER 2 – College Education or Apprenticeship Training
Technical, skilled trades and supervisory positions that generally require a college diploma or apprenticeship training.

NOC TEER 3 – College, Apprenticeship or Short-Term Training
Occupations requiring post-secondary training or specialized job-specific training, such as administrative assistants, bookkeepers and Early Childhood Educators (Level 2 and above).
