South of Grande Prairie on Highway 40 for 5.5 kms
Tamarack Recreation Area
Located approximately 5.5kms south of Grande Prairie via Hwy 40, Tamarack Recreation Area is a Non-Motorized Day Use area suitable for year-round recreation activities including hiking, cycling, dog walking and snowshoeing.
Visitors to the Tamarack Recreation Area will enjoy the approximately 170 acres of boreal forest with gentle rolling topography and many large wetlands. There are natural surface trails running throughout the area with links to the Dunes and Tamarack Paved trails.
There is limited parking available near the south trailhead and the Camp Tamarack Entrance. The North Trailhead can be accessed via the Dunes Tail Parking lot (@ Highway 668 / Range Road 61 south of Aquatera landfill). Follow the paved trail south for about 1.3kms to the intersection of the Big Mountain (Canfor) Haul Road & Range Road 61. NO PARKING IS PERMITTED along any point of the haul road.
Within Tamarack Recreation Area, the following restrictions apply:
- No overnight stays
- No OHV's or vehicular access
- Pets must be on leash and under control.
- No fires
These restrictions do not necessarily apply in Crown Land outside of the Rec Area.
While visiting our parks this season, please remember:
- Be considerate of others
- Avoid excessive and offensive noise at any time of day: Talking or singing loudly, stereos at high volume and any other noisy behaviour is not permitted.
- For complete details on County parks and greenspaces regulation, refer to the Parkland Conservation Bylaw.
- Under the County's Community Standards Bylaw, behaviours that bother or disturb others are illegal. This includes offensive odours like composting, cannabis smoke and animal feces.
