Programs and Events 

AdventureSmart: Survive Outside Workshop
Friday, December 5, 2025 | Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum - Akroyd Theatre, 9301 112 Ave, Wembley | 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

The County of Grande Prairie is offering a free outdoor safety workshop for youth aged 12–17 in partnership with Grande Prairie Technical Search and Rescue.

Cost: Free (registration required)
Audience: Youth aged 12–17

Program Overview:
This beginner-level workshop introduces youth to essential outdoor survival skills and safety practices. Led by experienced Search and Rescue volunteers and AdventureSmart team members, participants will learn:

  • How Search and Rescue operates in the region
  • Trip planning and preparation
  • What essentials to pack for outdoor travel
  • Basic survival tips for staying safe outside

This session is ideal for novice outdoor enthusiasts and youth interested in learning how to be better prepared for outdoor adventures.

Additional Information:

  • Parent(s) or Guardian(s) must sign participants in and out of the program.
  • This registration provides access to the Akroyd Theatre only.
  • Admission to the rest of the museum is not included and must be purchased separately if desired.

Alberta Conservation and Hunter Education Course
December 29, 30, & 31 | County of Grande Prairie - Community Services Building,  10808 -100 Ave Clairmont | 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Get ready to explore the outdoors safely and responsibly! The Alberta Conservation and Hunter Education Course is designed for youth ages 12 to 17 who are interested in learning the fundamentals of safe hunting practices, wildlife conservation, and responsible firearm use.

Brought to you through a partnership between the County of Grande Prairie and the Alberta Conservation Association, this program is led by certified instructors from GP Firearm Safety. Participants will gain essential knowledge and skills to become ethical and informed hunters, while also meeting the requirements for provincial hunter education certification.

Whether your child is new to hunting or looking to build on existing knowledge, this course offers a supportive and engaging learning environment to help them succeed.

Registration: $75.00 (plus G.S.T.) - fees reduced thanks to ACA grant funding.
