Landscaping

Landscaping is more than making an area look nice. Effective landscaping helps promote environmental conservation, protects and improves property values, and helps promote economic development through the provision of an aesthetically pleasing community and compatibility of adjacent land uses.

The Land Use Bylaw includes the requirement for landscaping and site design for residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional sites. The detailed landscape plan and site plan includes adjacent boulevards and reserve lands, and requires specific information including:

  • Common botanical names
  • Location and quantity of trees and shrubs
  • Landscape details specifying combination of coniferous and deciduous trees and shrubs for year-round landscape enhancement
  • Ground coverings, including grass, mulch beds, rock beds, paving stones, and raised planters.

Detailed information on landscaping requirements can be found in the Land Use Bylaw. Developers should also look for any specific requirements for their respective zoning districts.
