    County Council delivers on resident priorities of roads and public safety in 2025 final budget 

    County of Grande Prairie Council approved the 2025 budget with a 2.4 per cent municipal tax rate increase to ensure alignment with public feedback which consistently identifies roads and public safety as key priorities. The increase translates to approximately $57.85 annually, or $4.82 per month on a residential property valued at $575,000.

    Specialized Fire Equipment Replacements Approved — Council directed Administration to proceed with purchasing replacement specialized fire equipment at a cost of use $222,520.63, as identified through an internal equipment audit. Some of the existing equipment is nearing its end of life/expiration dates and has been in use for over 13 years since the County Regional Fire Service was formed. Assorted items needing to be replaced include multiple Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) cylinders, hoses and nozzles, pumps, and fittings.

    Recreation and Culture Strategic Plan Proposal — The Committee received a proposal from Administration highlighting the importance of creating a 2026 Recreation and Culture Strategic Plan. The Committee directed Administration to develop a work plan for a Recreation master plan and bring it back to a future Council meeting. The intent of the proposed strategic plan is to provide guidance for an overall vision for all Recreation and Culture initiatives within the County

    Hommy Park Management Plan and Lease Transfer — Council received an update from Administration regarding the Hans O. Hommy Memorial Society’s desire to transfer the ownership of Hommy Park’s recreation lease to the County. The Society highlighted its challenges with aging volunteers and limited capacity over the years. Mr. Milton Hommy was in attendance and Council thanked him and his family for their dedication and hard work over the decades. Council approved the Hommy Park and Campground Management Plan as presented and directed Administration to request that the Society transfer the Provincial Recreational Lease 88024 to the County.

    Updated Road Ban Taking Effect Monday, March 24, 2025

    Starting at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 24, the existing road ban currently in place on all County of Grande Prairie gravel roads will be updated. All gravel roads will now be at 75 per cent axle weight 24 hours a day unless otherwise posted.
