    Regional Fire Service Presents 2024 Annual Report — The Committee received the 2024 Annual Report from County Regional Fire Service which highlighted the serious drought conditions in the Spring of 2024, creating the ideal scenario for the spread of wildfires across the County. Major impacts on the community included the 2024 Kleskun Creek wildfire and the Jasper evacuation. The Service also deployed resources to support partners across Alberta including the Municipal District of Peace, Zama City in Mackenzie County, Saddle Hills County, Municipality of Jasper, and Garden River.

    J.D.A. Ventures Ltd. Welcomed as New Naming Sponsor for County Sportsplex 

    The County of Grande Prairie is pleased to announce a new naming partnership with J.D.A. Ventures Ltd., which will see the County Sportsplex renamed as the J.D.A. County Sportsplex. This long-term sponsorship agreement will support ongoing improvements and maintenance of the County’s premier sports and recreation facility, ensuring it continues to meet the needs of the growing community. 

  • Gas Release Contained – No Threat to the Public

    Update: 3:50 p.m., Wednesday February 26, 2025 – County crews have confirmed that the gas release in the area of Highway 674 (Teepee Creek Highway) and Range Road 54 has been contained and is no longer releasing.

    2024 Innovation Awards Winner Recognition — The County of Grande Prairie aims to foster a culture of innovation within its organization. A campaign between June and November 2024 encouraged staff to nominate individuals and teams who demonstrated exceptional innovation within the County. A total of 27 nominations were received for the three award categories: Best Created Solutions, Best Drivers of Change, and Best Positive Impact.

    Veterans Memorial Garden and Interpretive Centre Funding Awarded — Council approved the $5,000 funding request from the Canadian Motorcycle Tourism Association (CMTA) for the Veterans Memorial Garden and Interpretive Centre. CMTA runs the Veterans Memorial Gardens & Interpretive Centre in the City of Grande Prairie. The project started in 2017, as a place to teach the community about the military history in northwest Alberta. Since 2019, the County has awarded $20,600 in grants to the initiative.
