Facility Rules

All residents must present their waste card at the scale.
Failure to do so may result in wait times or fees.

Treat Clairmont Centre staff and other visitors with respect.
Always follow instructions given by Clairmont Centre staff.
Dispose of all waste and recycling appropriately, as directed by Clairmont Centre staff.
No smoking or vaping anywhere on site.
Obey all road and site signage.
No children or pets outside of the vehicle.

Landfill Access Card

County of Grande Prairie Residents and approved municipalities may dispose of 1,000 kg of household waste per year for free at the Clairmont Centre for Recycling and Waste Management. There are no limits for recycling. This location is also known as the County Landfill.

A Landfill Access Card is required and used to track weights as you enter and leave through the scales. Access cards are not required to access any County Transfer Stations or Recycling Depots.

One Landfill Access Card is available to each household. Additional or replacement cards can be purchased for $20 by contacting the landfill at 780-567-4194.

People who visit the landfill without their access cards may pay standard tipping fees.

All County and approved municipality residents can apply for a Landfill Access Card.

We accept used lubricating oil (five 20L pails per visit), empty oil containers and used oil filters. No water or antifreeze in the oil please. Empty antifreeze, windshield fluid, and DEF containers are also accepted.

Household Hazardous Waste
Household hazardous items such as paint, household chemicals and their containers are accepted year-round.

Shelve and Share

The Shelf and Share at the Clairmont Centre for Recycling and Waste Management is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on days the landfill is open.

Items must be unpacked, out of boxes, and in good working condition. Upholstered furniture and appliances are not accepted.

Soil Information

The Clairmont Centre for Recycling and Waste Management accepts soil for disposal under certain conditions. In accordance with the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act (EPEA), and the Operating Approval, the Landfill does not accept soil containing the following:

Free liquids	Asbestos

Radioactive waste	Hazardous waste
Oilfield waste	Hot ashes
Pesticides	Sulphur and sulphur-contaminated products
Reactive substances	Biomedical / biological / pathological waste

Residential soil, under one dump truck in volume, does not require testing.

Topsoil should be conserved and not disposed of at the landfill. Topsoil, sand, admixed soil, as well as any soil with vegetation, is considered a waste and will be charged as such. Soil containing any debris, metal, wood, or concrete is waste.

Clean fill soil is accepted at no charge, it must be clay based and free of debris.

Clean gravel is accepted at no charge, it must be free of debris.

Landfill staff has final decision if the soil is acceptable as fill or considered waste.

All commercial and large residential soil projects will be classified as contaminated and not accepted, until proven otherwise. Soil samples must be submitted to a third-party lab for a Class II Landfill Analysis, Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons, Soluble Chloride (mg/kg), and any known contaminants.

Soil analysis meeting the acceptance criteria for the landfill will be accepted free of charge. If the project volume exceeds 500 tonnes, or if the waste material changes in physical state, odour and /or appearance, the county may request additional sampling to take place at no cost to the county.

Analysis can take up to seven days, please plan accordingly or your loads may be refused.
