Candidate Disclosure

All candidates must submit campaign disclosure statements with the County of Grande Prairie.

Campaign disclosure statements must be filed:

  • Even if the candidate had no contributions or expense;
  • The campaign was self-funded;
  • Whether or not the candidate was elected;
  • Even if the candidate has withdrawn their nomination.

Important Deadlines

Candidates for the 2025 Municipal Election are required by the Local Authorities Election Act to file their campaign and financial disclosure statements by the dates as listed below:

September 30, 2025

Reporting period for contributions received between January 1 to July 31, 2025.

March 1, 2026

Reporting period for contributions received between January 1 to December 31, 2025.

Submit Disclosure Statement

You must submit your campaign and finance disclosure on or before the deadline.

There are two (2) ways to submit your disclosure statements to the County of Grande Prairie elections office.

  1. In-person: Appointment required. Call the election office at 780-532-9842 ext. 3393 or email election@countygp.ab.ca to make an appointment. The County election office is located at 10001-84 Avenue, Clairmont, AB. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  2. Mail or courier: Submit by mail or courier. Please consider mailing time. The election office must receive the disclosure statement by the deadline. Mailing dates or postmarks do not qualify as meeting legislative deadlines.

Note: Disclosure statements submitted via email will not be accepted. The elections office will only accept signed originals.

Fines and Penalties

A person who files after the deadline or fails to file will face fines and penalties:

·         $500 late filing fee

·         Name included in public non-compliance report to Council

·         Eligibility status for future elections or by-elections will be impacted. You will not be eligible for
          (whichever expires first): eight (8) years if you fail to file; or three (3) years following the day of                      disclosure statement filing if you file late.

If you are listed in the non-compliance report, you may apply to the Court of King’s Bench for relief within 60 days of the day the report is made public.

You may be subject to additional penalties by the Alberta Election Commissioner.

Records Maintenance and Public Access

Candidates must keep records of contributions and campaign expenses for three (3) years following Election Day.

Candidate campaign disclosure statements will be published online.

Members of the public may view disclosure statements in person and under supervision at the County of Grande Prairie election office.

Mailing addresses will be blacked out from documents before they are made available to the public in accordance with section 147.4(7) of the LAEA.
