Hamlet Area Structure Plan Grant

At the January 27, 2025, County of Grande Prairie Council meeting, Council approved Policy M17 – Hamlet Area Structure Plan Incentive Program as presented. The Policy provides grant opportunities to help support long-term planning for the hamlets of Bezanson, Dimsdale, Elmworth, Hythe, La Glace, Teepee Creek, and Valhalla Centre through land-use planning, infrastructure reviews, and other developments. Council directed Administration to notify all eligible residents.

To plan for future growth and sustainability within County hamlets, Area Structure Plans (ASPs) are required in order to ensure that proper zoning, land uses, transportation networks, infrastructure services, and recreational facilities will be in place.

We have provided the following answers to commonly asked questions below. Should you have additional questions or wish to pursue a grant application, the contact information for the County’s Planning Department can be found below.

What is an ASP?

  • An ASP is a formal framework for developing lands for commercial, industrial, and residential purposes.

Do I need an ASP?

  • If you plan to subdivide your land, you may need an ASP prior to subdividing to plan how your land will be developed. Please contact the Planning department for more information.

What are the costs of completing an ASP?

  • ASPs typically cost at least $125,000. The Hamlet Area Structure Plan Incentive Grant can provide up to 25 per cent of the final cost or quoted cost (whichever is less), to a maximum of $30,000. The County will also waive the $10,000 application fee.
