Found a Lost Pet? Here’s How You Can Help:
If you have found a lost animal, it’s important to look through the database to see if the owner has reported their pet missing. If you don’t find a match to the animal you have found, please follow these steps to submit a notice:
-
Fill out a “Found Pet Notice” form. Once you fill out a form, you should receive an email from 24Petconnect within 24 hours to activate your post on the platform. If it’s not in your inbox, check your junk email folder. 24Petconnect monitors all submissions for safety and privacy.
-
Open your email from 24Petconnect and select “Activate Request.” You will be rerouted to a webpage notifying you that your request has been activated. On this page, you will also have an option to view your post.
Please note: If you submitted a photo, please allow up to two business days for review and approval.

Frequently Asked Questions
I have entered my postal code, but I’m not seeing the list of pets for my area. What should I do?
I found my pet on the site. How do I connect with the person who found it?
If your lost pet was posted by a resident, send them your contact information by filling out the contact form located at the bottom of the post.
If your lost pet is listed as being held at the Grande Prairie Regional Pound, the facility’s address and phone number will be included at the bottom of the post. Call or visit the Regional Pound Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. or Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
I want to make a post. What personal details will be shown?
When you fill out a Found Pet Notice, you must submit the closest cross street name and postal code of where the animal was found. If you found a pet near your home, do not enter your home address as it will show in the post. Your name, email, and phone number are required to allow 24Petconnect to contact you, but will not be displayed in the post.
If someone wants to claim the pet you have found, you will be notified by an automated email from 24Petconnect with the owner’s contact information. The owner will not receive your personal information when requesting to connect.
What happens if an owner wants to claim the pet I found?
You will receive an email listing their name, email address and phone number. They will not receive your contact details, so please reach out to them to reunite them with their lost animal.
I submitted a notice of a found pet. When will my post show up on the site?
Once you have made a submission, you should receive an email within 24 hours. There will be an option within the email to activate your request. If you haven’t received an email in your inbox, check your junk email folder. Please note: If you submitted a photo, please allow up to two business days for review and approval.
How long will my post stay up?
Your post will be active for 30 days. After 30 days you will receive an email prompting you to renew your request.
Yes. To delete your post, open the last email you received from 24Petconnect. Within the email, select the option in the line that says, “If this request was made in error, click here to cancel this request.”
Can I change or edit my post later?
If you submitted your post and need to make an edit, go to your last email from 24Petconnect and select “Edit Request.” You will be redirected to the request form, where you can then edit your details.
What will my personal information be used for?
Your information will only be used to connect you with owners, and to receive emails from 24Petconnect. The County and City of Grande Prairie do not have access to your personal information submitted through the website.
Why do I need to share the postal code and location of where the pet was found?
The street name and postal code are important pieces of information for the owner to know. It helps them determine whether the pet could be theirs, as well as how far it may have travelled from home.
We understand you may have found the animal outside your own neighbourhood. If you’re unsure of the postal code, consider using a tool like Google Maps to find one near where you picked up the pet. This small step can make a big difference for pet owners searching for their lost animals.
What is the difference between the “Lost My Pet” and “Found A Pet” page on the database?
The “Lost My Pet” page lists animals that have been reported as found. This page is best for owners wondering if their pet has been picked up by a resident, or if their pet has been dropped off at the Grande Prairie Regional Pound.
The “Found A Pet” page lists pets that are still missing. This page is best for people who have found an animal and want to see if it has been reported missing, to avoid submitting a duplicate request.
Why doesn’t the “Adopt” section have pets from Grande Prairie on the platform?
The Grande Prairie Regional Pound does not handle animal adoptions. Instead, once pets have become property of the municipality, they are transferred to a local animal shelter, such as Bandaged Paws, where animals are then available for adoption. It’s important to note that this platform is not used to buy, sell, or rehome pets.
How can I stop receiving emails about a pet I have found?
To stop receiving emails, you must cancel your request. To do so, open the last email you received from 24Petconnect and select the option in the line that says, “If this request was made in error, click here to cancel this request.”
What happens if I found a pet and no one claims it?
If you found a pet and have decided to hold onto it until claimed, you can either continue waiting to see if the owner contacts you or bring the animal to the Grande Prairie Regional Pound. There is no obligation to hold onto a pet indefinitely.
What happens to a pet once I have given it to the Grande Prairie Regional Pound?
Animals will stay at the Regional Pound for five days while staff make every attempt to contact their owner. Micro chipped animals and animals with a current licence may be held for up to 10 days. Animals that are not reclaimed after the allotted days become property of the municipality and can be adopted out.
