County Regional Fire Service Recruiting Local Responders for Rural and Town Stations
The County Regional Fire Service is seeking dedicated individuals from rural areas to join our team as paid response firefighters and medical first responders. Only those living within 15 kilometres of our stations in Bezanson, Hythe, La Glace, Teepee Creek, and the towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith, and Wembley can apply.

Disaster Recovery Program Update – Administration provided an update on the status of Disaster Recovery Program (DRP) submissions related to the Dunes West Wildfire and Kleskun Creek Wildfire. The total cost submitted to the DRP for the Dunes West Wildfire was $7,585,656.33 with just under $1.8 million awaiting reimbursement. The application submitted on August 7, 2024, for the Kleskun Creek Fire is pending approval from the Municipal Wildfire Assistance Program.

Electoral Boundary Review Recommendation – Council directed Administration to prepare the Divisional Boundaries Bylaw, based on the existing electoral boundaries, for first reading on September 23, 2024.
Starting today, Tuesday, September 3, 2024, County offices will now be open over the lunch hour.
The decision to extend the County’s customer service hours was made at the Council meeting on August 12.
Previously, offices were only open during the lunch hour temporarily to accommodate annual property tax payments near the end of June.
Fire Restriction lifted for Entire County and Surrounding Towns
Effective at 2:00 p.m. today, Tuesday, August 27, 2024, the County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service has lifted the Fire Restriction that was put in place on July 29 for the entire County, along with the towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith and Wembley. This change aligns with Alberta Wildfire’s move to lift all advisories today.

Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) Member Advocacy Letter Request for CN and CPKC Rail Shutdown – Council supported the RMA’s request to send a letter to the Federal Minister of Labour calling on him to implement binding arbitration to resolve the dispute, while emphasizing the local risks and impacts that a rail work stoppage will have on the rural economy and communities.
County of Grande Prairie Hosting Festival to Celebrate Alberta Day
The County of Grande Prairie is excited to host a 2024 Alberta Day Festival on Sunday, September 1 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event will take place at the Bezanson Community Event Centre, located at 9901 100th Avenue in Bezanson.
UPDATE at 4:00pm, August 16, 2024: Water Services Restored in the Hamlet of Bezanson
Water services in the Hamlet of Bezanson have now been restored. Repairs will continue Monday, August 19, and we will share a more accurate timeframe on our social media channels once this has been confirmed.
