    Update #36: Kiskatinaw Wildfire Now Being Held; Evacuation Alert Cancelled

    Thursday, June 19, 2025, 3:20 p.m. –   Fire activity on the Kiskatinaw River Wildfire has continued to decrease, and the wildfire is now classified as Being Held, meaning it is not expected to spread beyond its current boundaries. As a result, the evacuation alert issued for residents north of Township Road 710 to 740, east of the British Columbia/Alberta border to Range Road 132 has been cancelled.

    Wednesday, June 18, 2025, 2:30 p.m.–  Firefighting efforts continue to progress steadily on the Kiskatinaw River Wildfire, aided by recent rainfall and cooler conditions. While the wildfire remains classified as out of control, suppression efforts have now expanded into Alberta, with crews actively working along the southern perimeter.

    County Hosts Free FireSmart™ Wood Chipping Events to Help Reduce Wildfire Risk 

    The County of Grande Prairie is hosting two free FireSmart™ Wood Chipping events to support ongoing wildfire prevention efforts as part of the updated 2025 Wildfire Mitigation Strategy. These events help reduce fire-prone materials, such as trees, branches, brush, and deadfall, on private properties, particularly in high-risk subdivisions, and contribute to the County’s broader goals of risk reduction and community protection.

    Tuesday, June 17, 2025, 3:00 p.m.–   Continued progress is being made on the Kiskatinaw River Wildfire, thanks to continued cooler weather and precipitation in the forecast. Despite these favourable conditions, the wildfire remains out of control and continues to pose a potential risk to nearby areas.

    Fire Ban Downgraded to Fire Restriction Across County 

    Effective at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, the County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service will downgrade the Fire Ban to a Fire Restriction for the entire County, along with the towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith and Wembley.

    Monday, June 16, 2025, 1:40 p.m. –  Cooler weather and reduced fire activity have supported continued progress on the Kiskatinaw River Wildfire. However, the wildfire remains out of control and continues to pose a potential risk to nearby areas. 

  • Have Your Say at County of Grande Prairie Municipal Development Plan Information Sessions

    The County of Grande Prairie will host five Municipal Development Plan (MDP) information sessions — both in-person and online.

    A Municipal Development Plan is a community’s long-term guide to growth and development. The proposed MDP incorporates key findings from two phases of consultations and in-depth analyses of the County’s current state, industries, and infrastructure. The finalized MDP will serve as the long-term plan for land uses and future development areas in hamlets and across the County. This will ensure sustainable growth that meets the needs of our community over the next 50 years

  • Update #32: Favourable Conditions Help Crews, Alert Remains in Place

    Sunday, June 15, 2025, 11:45 a.m. –  Favourable conditions have supported strong progress on the Kiskatinaw River Wildfire; however, the fire continues to pose a potential risk to residents in the area.

    An evacuation alert remains in place for everyone north of Township Road 710 to 740, east of the British Columbia/Alberta border to Range Road 132.
